Incoming shipments and temperature sensitive packages

Chemistry Stores is office of record for all incoming shipments to the Department of Chemistry. To facilitate this:

  1. The package is opened, if needed, to retrieve the packing slip.
  2. The receiver's name is written on the outside of the package.
  3. Within 48 hours, the packing slip is scanned into the customer's Microsoft Teams account for reference and UI records retention. Scanned invoices will be kept for the assigned retention period.
  4. The customer is notified via email to pick up the package. Personal packages should not be sent to Chemistry Stores.
  5. If you receive a package and there is an issue, please bring the shipment, the packaging it came in, and a printed copy of the Teams packing slip to Chemistry Stores and we will assist you further.
  6. Incoming packages should be inspected in a timely manner to address any damage occurred during shipping.

Incoming temperature sensitive packages

Due to limited staffing in Chemistry Stores, temperature sensitive packages are the responsibility of the end user. Customers should ensure tracking is obtained from the vendor so notifications are received and the end user can track it.

Please note:

  1. Chemistry Stores is not open on the weekends
  2. Deliveries made after normal staffing hours are processed the next day
  3. Chemistry Stores has signs in place asking delivery personnel to deliver to the main office if signatures are required, however, there is no guarantee.

Incoming equipment shipments

If you are expecting a large piece of equipment, we encourage you to talk with the shipper to evaluate if:

  1. Special equipment is needed to unload/move it
  2. If the shipment is coming by semi.

If any of these apply, we recommend that the shipment is delivered to UI General Stores Central Receiving with your name listed as receiver. General Stores has a loading dock, power lifts, and smaller trucks for easier transport to the Department of Chemistry's downtown location.
