The Chemical Safety and Responsibilities Stewards (CSARS) at the University of Iowa is a shining example of how safety and community engagement can go hand in hand. CSARS is a dedicated group of graduate students committed to fostering a robust safety culture within the department of Chemistry. Established in 2020, CSARS operates as an American Chemical Society (ACS) recognized Graduate Student Organization (GSO) and an active member of the Joint Safety Team Network. Last year, CSARS was one of 8 graduate student organizations to be awarded a commendable rating by the Society Committee on Education through ACS.
CLAS students explore future of sustainable chemistry in Switzerland and Germany

Nearly 20 students, led by Adam Brummett, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, and Stratis Giannakouros, director of the Office of Sustainability and the Environment, embarked on a two-week journey to Switzerland and Germany, where they learned about sustainable chemistry.
