The Women Chemists Committee (WCC) of the American Chemical Society has selected Bess Vlaisavljevich to be a recipient of the 2027 WCC Rising Star Award for excellence in the scientific enterprise. A team of researchers from the University of Iowa and the University of Colorado Boulder recently explored what happens to the chemicals in personal care products after they wash down the drain or evaporate into the air.

Despite the current challenging environment in obtaining critical external research funding, we are very happy for our faculty who have recently received new grants to support their research programs. Many of these are multi-year awards and support numerous students in our degree programs. These new research grants collectively total $2.3M.

11 undergraduate students participate in internships abroad in summer 2026, thanks to support from the Dr. Ken Magid Scholarship. The fund was established by the late Linda Baker (BA English ’68) in memory of her former mentor, author and child behaviorist Dr. Kenneth Magid.
