June 2018 - University of Iowa Department of Chemistry was just awarded the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Faculty development award!  This will provide funds to hire an assistant professor in the field of radiochemistry.

 

April 2017:  Anastasia Blake (Daly group) receives a Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) award! Congrats Anastasia! 

 

November 18, 2016 - Congrats to Erica Cole (Forbes group) for receiving a DOE Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship!  Erica will be spending the next few months at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

 

June 16, 2016 - Tori Forbes was promoted to associate professor

 

March 7, 2016 - Andrew W. Knight, wins the Student Innovator Award for 2016 from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development from the University of Iowa. This award honors and recognizes Andrew Knights's innovative research that led to the development of novel separation techonlogies for the removal of protactinium from complex mixtures of actinides, metals, and other impurities.

 

March 1, 2016 - Andrew W. Nelson, wins the Graduate Research Excellence Award in Biology, Life, Mathematical and Physical Sciences for 2016 from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development from the University of Iowa. This award recognizes Andrew Nelson's research that has focused on understanding the measurement, characteristics, and environmental impacts of radionuclides associated with unconventional drilling for natural gas.

 

February 10, 2016 - Andrew W. Nelson, MS, MPH successfully defended his dissertation titled "Naturally-occurring radioactive materials (NORM) associated with unconventional drilling for natural gas."

 

April 2, 2015 - Research by Andrew W. Nelson, MS, Michael Schultz, PhD, and other UIowa Radiochemistry researchers was published in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) journal Environmental Health Perspectives. The article titled, "Understanding the Radioactive Ingrowth and Decay of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials in the Environment: An Analysis of Produced Fluids from the Marcellus Shale," decribes the expected behavior of liquid wastes generated by hydraulic fracturing and unconventional drilling for natural gas. March 10, 2015 - ES&T Letters paper was selected by the American Chemical Society as among "The Best of the Best in 2014." http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acs.estlett.5b00048

 

December 29, 2014 - Congrats to Andrew Knight for being selected to receive the Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Student Reserach Award in 2015.  This award will allow Andrew to conduct research on protactinium chemistry at Argonne National Laboratory under the guidance of Drs. Lynne Soderholm and Richard Wilson in the Heavy Element Chemistry Division. 

July 31, 2014 - University of Iowa Department of Chemistry was just awarded the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Graduate Fellowship Award!  This will provide $25,000 research assistantship, summer fellowships, and funds to support the "Radiochemistry pathways to post-graduation" program for graduate student in the Department of Chemistry.

June 2014 - Madeline Peterson has been chosen to attend the Nuclear Chemistry and Radiochemistry Summer School.

May 2014 - Eric Eitrheim has been chosen as an intern for Northstar Medical.

April 15, 2014 - Samuel Miller and Madeline Basile have both been accepted into radiochemistry graduate programs.  Sam will be attending Washington State University and Madeline will be at the University of Iowa.  Congrats Sam and Madeline!
