Adam Brummett
Biosketch
Adam Brummett received his B.S. in chemistry and minor in physics from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In 2009, he joined the chemistry Ph.D. program at the University of Iowa. While earning his PhD, Adam conducted research on metal-dependent enzymes via biochemical studies and X-ray crystallography. He developed a mechanism through which a series of enzymes produce a climatically active gas. Adam stayed at the University of Iowa to teach chemistry and is now an Associate Professor of Instruction. In recent years, Adam has specialized in teaching large first-year chemistry courses and has been involved in updating curriculum for the Principles and General Chemistry courses. Adam has also created a Sustainable Chemistry Study Abroad course in Germany and Switzerland and conducts research related to how students learn and how instructor feedback impacts learning. Outside of the classroom, you can find Adam exploring Iowa’s unique opportunities for adventure through biking, hiking and rock climbing.
