The Department of Chemistry is sad to announce the passing of Darrell P. Eyman. Darrell was a long-time professor of the department. His initial appointment started in 1964 as an Assistant Professor in the Inorganic Division. He retired in 2011 after 47 years of dedicated service to the department and its students.

Eyman was known as an excellent instructor in both the Principles of Chemistry sequence and the basic inorganic lecture and laboratory courses. He served as the DEO from 1991 to 1999 during a period of rapid growth in the stature of the department’s research enterprise. As an entrepreneur, Eyman established ACCEL Catalysis, a startup company spun off from his academic research program which was focused on the development, synthesis, and characterization of novel inorganic materials.

Eyman always had a great story to share, he had a genuine love for chemistry and the department, and he enjoyed being with his family and friends.

Our condolences go out to Joy, his beloved wife of over 60 years, and to his family.
