Shonda Monette

Shonda Monette, formerly the instructional administrator, has been selected as the new department administrator in the Department of Chemistry.

Monette has been with the University of Iowa for over 18 years, beginning as a graduate student. She obtained a summer research fellowship with Lei Geng in 1999 and by 2001, she was already an assistant instructor for David Wiemer in organic chemistry. After obtaining her master’s degree, she was selected as a lab coordinator and was later promoted to coordinator specialist.

In 2007, the University of Iowa changed the structure of its chemistry courses. Monette was instrumental in nearly doubling the efficiency of the new course structure. In 2018, she was selected as the administrator of instruction, which oversees roughly 3,000 students as well as teaching assistants.

In her new role, Monette plans to advance her strategic plan for open communication, team efforts, and solidifying positive relationships.
