New Crowdfunding Platform

This fall, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and the University of Iowa Foundation will launch an exciting new initiative: the UI's first crowdfunding platform.
This platform will initially be used to support select faculty and research projects, but we anticipate extending the resource to students and student groups with specific funding needs in 2017. One of our goals is to broaden our base of engagement and target focused research and scholarship activities in new ways.
We are developing an application, submission guidelines, FAQs and other information to assist faculty and staff in their use of the crowdfunding platform. We will provide further details, and share this news more broadly, as these pieces come together. In the interim, please feel free to share the news with DEOs and other leadership in your college or organization as you deem appropriate.
In addition to this platform, the UI Foundation will continue to provide traditional major giving and annual giving programs. Although the day-to-day management of the UI crowdfunding site will be housed within the UI Foundation's Annual Giving department, it will not usurp the college and unit fundraising activities through mail, email, and telefund.
The crowdfunding initiative is another fundraising tool for individuals on campus who have an unmet need for specific project funding. It is important to note that all crowdfunding projects will solicit individual faculty members or researchers own list of contacts who may be interested in supporting their work.
We look forward to seeing the kinds of projects and initiatives this new tool might help support, and we appreciate your support as we move closer to our formal launch.
