Search for Professor in Experimental Physical Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in Experimental Physical Chemistry, broadly defined, effective August 2020. A competitive salary and start-up package will be provided. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interact with a number of Centers and Institutes with focus on the physical, biological, engineering, environmental, and medical sciences as described at: https://research.uiowa.edu/directory-centers-and-institutes.

Applicants must clearly demonstrate potential to develop and lead a nationally-prominent, externally-funded research program. The successful candidate must also add to the teaching mission of the Department in physical chemistry through a commitment to excellence in instruction at all levels (small and large enrollment, laboratory, and graduate courses). Candidates must have a doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field and a strong, promising record of scholarship and productivity. Postdoctoral or equivalent experience in an academic, government, national laboratory, or industrial setting is highly desired.

The Department has appointed eight new tenure-track faculty members in the past ten years and recently completed a major building renovation that provides state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research. The application materials should include a cover letter describing academic qualifications and professional experience, current CV, and academic transcripts. Applicants should also provide 1) a document that describes current expertise and future goals for an independent research program in physical chemistry, including plans for pursuing funding, dissemination of results, and broader impacts, with one-page summary and three proposals of 2-4 pages each; 2) one-page teaching statement detailing the applicant’s practices and philosophy for successful teaching and mentoring and 3) one-page diversity statement detailing how teaching, service, and scholarship can support the success of students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in chemistry, including how the applicant would further the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity as stated at https://chem.uiowa.edu/about/diversity-statement.
