The Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa seeks applications to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in Organic Chemistry broadly defined effective August 2019. A competitive salary and start-up package will be provided. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interact with a number of Centers and Institutes with focus on the physical, biological, and medical sciences as described at: https://research.uiowa.edu/directory-centers-and-institutes.

Applicants must clearly demonstrate potential to develop and lead a nationally-prominent, externally-funded research program. The successful candidate must also add to the teaching mission of the Department in organic chemistry through excellent teaching skills and a commitment to excellence in instruction at all levels (small and large enrollment, laboratory, and graduate courses).  Candidates must have a doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field and a strong, promising record of scholarship and productivity.  

The Department has appointed 8 new tenure-track faculty members in the past 10 years and recently completed a major building renovation that provides state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research. The University also provides a wide range of accessible state-of-the-art research facilities, as well as outstanding opportunities for interdisciplinary interactions with major campus initiatives and research centers.

Application materials must include a cover letter describing their academic qualifications and professional experience, CV, and academic transcripts.  Applicants should also provide documents that describe 1) their current expertise and future goals for an independent research program in organic chemistry; 2) their beliefs, practices, and interests in teaching, and 3) how their teaching, service, and/or scholarship has supported the success of students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in chemistry and/or how they would like to further the University of Iowa’s commitment to diversity.
