Jessica Jewett Reed wins the 2012 L.B. Sims Outstanding Master's Thesis Award
Jessica Jewett Reed wins the 2012 L.B. Sims Outstanding Master's Thesis Award for her Master’s thesis, Magnetic Effects on Hydride Storage in Palladium.
In her thesis, JJ showed that introduction of magnetic microparticles to a Pd electrode increases rates that H· absorbs and desorbs from Pd metal by several orders of magnitude. Because more hydrogen can be stored in Pd than in compressed H2, metal hydride storage is attractive for fuel containment in H2|O2 fuel cells, but the poor interfacial rates of H· transfer have limited implementation of Pd hydride storage.
Jessica was an undergraduate and masters student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa. She is currently a Ph.D. student in Chemical Education at Iowa State University.
