In this CAREER project funded by the Chemical Structure, Dynamic & Mechanism B Program of the Chemistry Division, Professor Scott Daly of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa is developing new chemically-reactive ligands that combine with inexpensive metals to promote cooperative chemical and electrochemical reactions with CO2. The goal of this research is to identify new and energy efficient methods to transform CO2 into chemical precursors used to prepare liquid fuels. As a military veteran, Professor Daly is also developing the “Chemistry Platoon” – a tutoring and outreach program created to help student veterans succeed in large-enrollment chemistry courses at the University of Iowa.
